BREAKING: Foremost Mass Communication scholar, Prof Lai Oso is dead

Verified information reaching NewsClick Nigeria on Sunday morning has it that renowned professor of Mass Communication Lai Oso is dead.

NewsClick Nigeria gathered that Oso who is also the President, Association of Communication Scolars and Professionals of Nigeria died in a ghastly accident that happened on Saturday evening.

Until his sudden demise, Prof Oso was lecturer at the School of Communication, Lagos State University (LASU). He was said to be due for retirement in three years.

The unfortunate incident was confirmed by the Dean, Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, LASU, Professor Sunday Olayinka Alawode in a broadcast message on Sunday morning.

Alawode wrote, “Good morning family. I am constrained to inform us of the involvement of Professor Muraino Olayiwola OSO, (we all fondly called Baba Lai Oso) in a ghastly auto accident which claimed his life yesterday 24th June 2023.

“It’s a rude shock to all of us even as we commiserate with Mummy Oso, the children and his entire family, the Communication family worldwide, LASU Community and all others.

“Baba, your sudden exit is painful, but we rest in the comfort that you have gone to be with the Lord. Rest in Peace. Adieu Baba of the Communication family.

 

Prof Oso desired, followed my strides – ACAMB President 

In a special tribute, President of the Association of Corporate Affairs Managers of Banks, Rasheed Bolarinwa said the late don desired and followed up on his strides 28 years after passing through his tutelage.

“Prof. Oso was my teacher in Comms theory and community journalism and later my HOD some 28 years ago…..long after my graduation, we kept in touch as he desired my growth and always following my stride. We exchanged constant communication on WhatsApp.

“My last meeting with him was in Abeokuta on Sept 8, last year when Ogun NIPR conferred PR awards on deserving practitioners including my humble self.

“Quite a shocking news on a Sunday morning but who are we to question God? HE knows best!

Adieu our treasured Prof. Oso.”
