Buhari Plans 15-Day ‘Private Visit’ to United Kingdom

President Muhammadu Buhari has concluded plans to embark on a private visit to the United Kingdom from next month, the presidency has announced.

A statement issued on Monday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, said this foreign trip will happen between November 3, 2019 to November 17, 2019.

Mr Adesina disclosed that Mr Buhari will go on the private visit after his trip to Saudi Arabia, where he is attending the Economic Forum of the Future Investment Initiative (FII) in Riyadh.

He said the President left Nigeria today for the Saudi event and will at the end of the summit fly to the United Kingdom for his private visit.

However, the presidency did not state if Mr Buhari has written to the National Assembly to transmit power to the Vice President, Mr Yemi Osinbajo, who is supposed to take charge of affairs of the nation in the President’s absence.

“President Muhammadu Buhari leaves the country today on an official trip to Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to attend Economic Forum of the Future Investment Initiative (FII) in Riyadh.

“On the sideline of the event, President Buhari will hold bilateral talks with His Majesty King Salman and His Majesty King Abdullah ll of Jordan.

“On Wednesday, 30th October, 2019, the President will participate in the High-Level Event titled What is Next for Africa: How will Investment and Trade Transform the Continent into the Next Great Economic Success Story?” with Presidents of Kenya, Congo-Brazzaville and Burkina Faso,” the statement said.

“At the end of the summit, President Buhari will on Saturday 2nd November, 2019, proceed to the United Kingdom on a private visit. He is expected to return to Nigeria on 17th November, 2019,” it added.

This is not the first time President Buhari is visiting the UK. It would be recalled that in the past trips, he had visited his doctors, causing some citizens in Nigeria to raise fears about his health.
