The Minister of Defence, Major General Christopher Musa (retd.), and the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, visited the Headquarters Theatre Command of Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI in Maiduguri, Borno State, emphasising the Federal Government’s commitment to combating terrorism.
During the visit, Musa and Matawalle assessed ongoing counter-insurgency operations and commended the Armed Forces for significant progress, attributing the gains to improved coordination and professionalism. They urged continued national support and reinforced President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s resolve to tackle insecurity.
The ministers addressed troops, conveying the President’s appreciation for their sacrifices and encouraging them to maintain momentum against insurgents. They also paid tribute to fallen soldiers at the Maiduguri Military Cemetery and inspected a new Command and Control Centre, alongside newly constructed accommodation for military personnel to boost welfare and morale.
The Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, briefed the ministers on operations, revealing that over 280 criminal elements were neutralised during the Ramadan period, logistics networks disrupted, and abducted civilians rescued.
The visit included a courtesy call on the Shehu of Borno, where the ministers acknowledged the traditional ruler’s support for the Armed Forces and praised residents’ resilience. At the Borno State Government House, they were received by the deputy governor, affirming continued collaboration to improve regional security.
Despite recent terrorist attacks in March 2026 that killed at least 23 people and injured 108 in Maiduguri, troops under Operation HADIN KAI continue intensified air and ground operations to neutralise fighters, disrupt supply routes, and prevent further attacks.
