Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has urged the military to step up efforts to end the sit-at-home orders frequently imposed by non-state actors in the South East region. He also pledged continued support for the military.

Governor Nwifuru made this call while welcoming the new General Officer Commanding the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu, Major General Oluyemi Olatoye, at his office in the New Government House Centenary City, Abakaliki, the state capital.

According to a press statement signed by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor,  on Sunday afternoon, Nwifuru encouraged security agencies to introduce a reward system to boost officers’ morale.

He stated, “I am certain you are familiar with the South East geopolitical environment.

“God has been with us, alongside the dedicated military officers deployed to our state. I assure you of our continued support and have full confidence in the personnel serving here.

“We have consistently supported committed officers, providing cash incentives and even car gifts to some.”

In response, Major General Oluyemi Olatoye expressed appreciation for the Governor’s support and pledged to collaborate with the state to uphold law and order.

He said, “I assumed command of the 82 Division on 27th January 2025. The purpose of this visit is to gain insight into the operational environment, challenges, and future direction of the command. It will also strengthen inter-agency and inter-service cooperation.”

“I appreciate your efforts in ensuring all agencies are well coordinated for improved outcomes. I have been informed of the cash rewards given to some of our men for outstanding performance.”

“I am grateful for the honour and respect you have shown to the military.”
