The former attorney general of the federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, has announced that he received an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

He stated that he intends to honour the invitation as a responsible citizen.

In a short message shared on his Facebook page, Malami noted that his willingness to comply aligns with his belief in accountability and transparency in public service.

“I hereby reaffirm my commitment to honour the invitation,” he said.

He further added, “I understand the spirit of accountability and transparency in public service — the principles that I both advocate and champion.”

Malami assured that he would keep citizens updated as events unfold, emphasising his dedication to openness in matters involving public trust.

On September 1, his convoy was attacked by suspected political thugs in Birnin Kebbi, the Kebbi state capital.

Subsequently, on September 10, he petitioned the national security adviser (NSA), the inspector-general of police (IGP), the director-general of the DSS, and heads of immigration and civil defence, alleging a plot to disrupt peace in Kebbi through the importation of political thugs.

He was later invited by the DSS on September 22 in connection with the incident.

On November 17, Malami declared his ambition to run for the 2027 governorship election in Kebbi.

He left the APC in July to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a move he said came after “wide consultations and deep personal reflection” and was driven by “love for our nation and concern for the hardship our people are facing”.
