In accordance with its accountability policy, the Ekiti State Government has started a thorough evaluation of every project carried out by the state’s 16 local governments and 22 Local Government Development Areas.

The Chairman of the Project Assessment Committee established by Governor Biodun Oyebanji for the purpose, Mr. Niyi Adebayo, Special Adviser to the Governor on Budget, Economic Planning and Performance Management, reaffirmed his commitment to making sure that “every kobo of the tax payers’ money released for projects is well utilised and properly accounted for.”

He said that the move followed “the release of funds to the councils for implementation of projects that have a direct impact on the lives of the people”.

Adebayo reported that the committee had visited a number of councils, including Efon, Ekiti South-West, Ijero, Moba, Oye, and Ikole, since starting its visits of the councils and LCDAs for the verification exercise last week.

The chairman said, “The team was set up by Mr Governor with the mandate to go round the local government areas and verify all the projects for which the councils have received funding. The assessment is also to ensure that the councils’ programmes and projects align with the state Development Plan.

“The Assessment Team will verify the number and location of all the projects, level of completion as well as the quality of work done and present a comprehensive report to the governor for further action,” Adebayo said.
