Emir of Gumel passes away in Cairo

 The Emir of Gumel in Jigawa State, Alhaji Dr Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, CON, has died.

Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof Isa Ali Pantami, announced the monarch’s death in a condolence message shared on Thursday.

According to Pantami, the emir died in Cairo, Egypt, on Thursday.

Ahmed Muhammad Sani II became the Emir of Gumel on December 16, 1980, and remained on the throne until his death on September 3, 2026.

Pantami described the late emir as a distinguished scholar, a source of wisdom and a father to all.

He said the monarch devoted his life to serving his people, promoting peace and education, and preserving the cultural values of his community.

“On behalf of myself and my family, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of the late Emir, the Gumel Emirate Council, His Eminence the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, CFR, the Government and good people of Jigawa State, and the entire nation,” he stated.

Pantami prayed for the repose of the monarch’s soul and for the family and people of Gumel and Jigawa State to have the strength to bear the loss.
