Neo Akpofure has served a legal notice seeking a public retraction and apology over sexual assault allegations circulated against him on social media.

The notice, dated February 18, 2026, and issued by the law firm E.L. Akpofure, San & Co., accused an X (formerly Twitter) user, identified as Ms. Arikan Udoka, of publishing defamatory statements about their client.

The letter referred to a post from February 17, 2026, in which the user claimed that Akpofure had raped her while they were both students at the University of Calabar (UNICAL). The post also suggested they had been “casual sex buddies,” but alleged that the specific encounter was non-consensual.

Akpofure’s legal team categorically denied the claims, describing them as “entirely false, malicious and defamatory,” and argued that the allegations had harmed his reputation and subjected him to public ridicule.

“The allegation falsely portrays our client as a sexual offender and a criminal, thereby subjecting him to public odium, reputational injury and emotional distress,” the notice stated.

The legal notice demanded that the accuser remove the post and any related content, issue a clear public retraction, and publish an apology acknowledging that the claims were untrue. It also requested a written assurance that no further defamatory statements would be made.

The firm warned that failure to comply within 48 hours would prompt legal action, including a civil defamation suit under Nigerian law.
