A former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and Ogun State governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress for 2027, Dr. Tunde Lemo, has praised President Bola Tinubu for giving states the needed backing to drive economic growth and development nationwide.
Lemo also commended Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, for completing the Gateway International Airport in Ilisan Remo and launching the state airline with two newly acquired aircraft.
He described the cargo airport as a transformative project that could significantly reshape the state’s economy by increasing its Gross Domestic Product and boosting Internally Generated Revenue.
Lemo, who rallied his supporters across Ogun State to warmly receive the President during the airport’s inauguration on Saturday, said Tinubu deserves sustained support beyond 2027 to help consolidate ongoing reforms.
He applauded the President’s role in making the project a reality, calling it a major economic milestone for both Ogun State and the country.
“This project represents progress, opportunity, and a new economic pathway for our people. It will create jobs, boost commerce, and position Ogun as a strategic hub for investment,” Lemo said.
He further lauded Abiodun’s leadership, describing it as forward-thinking, while also recognising past administrations for laying the foundation that enabled the project’s completion.
“This is a remarkable achievement, not only because we now have an airport that will facilitate passenger transportation, but also because it will boost export businesses, which are highly needed to strengthen our economy and increase foreign earnings.
“The cargo airport will be used to export agricultural products, and that is a major advantage because it will help boost the GDP. With the success of this project, Ogun may rank among the top three states in terms of Internally Generated Revenue within the next five years,” he stated.
“Governor Dapo Abiodun deserves commendation for his commitment to legacy infrastructure. We must also recognise the contributions of past leaders whose foundations have made these strides achievable,” he added.
Reiterating his backing for the President, Lemo described Tinubu’s reforms as bold and essential, expressing confidence that they would lead to long-term economic progress.
“Mr President’s reform agenda requires courage and consistency. I remain fully supportive of efforts aimed at repositioning Nigeria for sustainable growth and prosperity,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation to his supporters and residents of Ogun State for their calm and respectful behaviour during the President’s visit.
“I sincerely thank our supporters and the good people of Ogun State for their peaceful and respectful conduct. Your cooperation reflects the true character of our state,” he added.
