Halima Ibrahim, the mother of Ahmed Lawan, former senate president, has died.
Lawan’s mother died on Saturday at her residence in Gashua town, Bade LGA, Yobe state.
Halima was 86 years old.
She was buried on Sunday in line with Islamic rites.
In a condolence letter addressed to Lawan, Godswill Akpabio, senate president, condoled with the family of the former senate president over the death of Halima.
Akpabio said Nigeria needs mothers like Halima who looked beyond the present to direct their children towards lasting legacies.
“Hajiya Halima will be etched in our national memory not only for being a virtuous mother, but as a woman, who played her role in raising a child who rose to the top of academia and our political orbit,” Akpabio said.
“I am particularly impressed by the maternal support she provided in guiding you through your years of primary and secondary education in Gashua, despite her own limited education.”
In a statement, Abass Tajudeen, the speaker of the house of representatives, commiserated with the family of Lawan, saying the demise of Halima is painful and devastating.
Tajudeen said Lawan’s mother was a worthy example of womanhood and that she lived a life filled with impact.
