… Lauds donors, community’s support

A Non Governmental Organization, The Grassroots Aid Initiative (TGAI) has donated and commissioned a motorized borehole system to Ubandawaki Community in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State, in a bid to ensuring healthy living for the rural dwellers.

The low-profiled event which was held in conformity with all the government protocols in the face of the novel coronavirus pandemic took place amidst thrills and frills by the little population of the community, who had been experiencing dearth of hygienic water for decades.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of The Grassroots Aid Initiative, Dr. Khadeejat Kehinde Kadiri expressed gratitude to God for granting the team the initiative, strength and mutual understanding in the course of formulating and implementing ideas towards the success of the water project.

While presenting estimate of expenses on the project, Dr. Kadiri clarified that out of about N1.1m garnered from donations and spent on the project, the community on their part contributed 12% to the project through building of fetching points, provision of a 4000 litre tank and a brand new generator set respectively.

“Our donors needed to be appreciated a lot for honoring our calls. Every single dime spent on this project came from them. Some of whom are right here in Nigeria, while some donations were also made from abroad through GoFundMe system. It is our prayer that God continues to replenish, uplift and answer all their secret and open prayers.”

Speaking on behalf of the Community, Mr. Saheed Baba extolled TGAI for the great impact they have been proudly making in bettering lives of people of the lowest social status and impoverished rural farm workers, who mostly rely on murky unmoving stream for their daily needs, across different states of the federation.

While narrating the story behind the facilitation of the project in the community, Mr. Baba urged the people to be meticulous, vigilant and consider the maintenance of the water system as a collective responsibility, reminding them of the difficulty they had faced over the years in quest of drinkable water.

High point of the event include Signing of Agreement on Deed of Transfer; commissioning and brief sensitisation on ways to operate, use and maintain the motorized borehole system.
