The Ondo State Police Command announced on Sunday that it had arrested a man identified only as Adegoke for allegedly killing two men on his farm in Ore, the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area, last week.
Adegoke reportedly claimed that the deceased, along with others from a neighbouring community, had been stealing produce from his farm. It was also alleged that the suspected thieves had stolen his motorcycle, which had been parked on the farm.
According to a source, Adegoke encountered a group of individuals on his farm on the day of the incident.
He allegedly engaged in a confrontation with them, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to others.
A source explained, *“Some suspected thieves had been stealing Adegoke’s farm produce. Previously, his cocoa, kola nuts, and plantains had frequently gone missing. The thieves also took his motorcycle from the farm.
“But he caught some people on the farm again, and during a confrontation, he beat them severely. In the process, two of them died, and others sustained injuries.”*
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed Adegoke’s arrest and stated that an investigation into the matter was underway.
“Investigation into the incident is ongoing,” Odunlami said.
