The Kwara State Fire Service has reported that it prevented a fire from destroying five shops and seven rooms after an outbreak in the Pakata area of Ilorin West Local Government Area.
The incident occurred at No. 61, Ita-Ogunbo area, Pakata Road, Ilorin, at about 11:09 a.m. on Saturday.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Public Relations Officer and Head of Media Unit, Hassan Adekunle, on behalf of the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, the agency said, “The Kwara State Fire Service responded to a fire outbreak at No. 61 Pakata Road, Ita-Ogunbo Area, Ilorin, Kwara State.
“The incident involved a building comprising eight (8) rooms and five (5) shops, out of which one (1) shop was affected by the fire.”
Firefighters were said to have arrived promptly and succeeded in containing the blaze before it could spread to other parts of the building and nearby properties.

He also stressed the importance of having fire extinguishers readily available to control fires at an early stage.
