Five burnt to death, 10 injured in Ogun expressway crash

Five people were burnt to death, while 10 others suffered injuries in a lone accident on the Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway in Ogun State on Thursday.

The crash happened around Iyana Egbado at about 11:12 a.m.

The Ogun State spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps, Afolabi Odunsi-Oyewole, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to journalists.

He explained that the vehicle involved was conveying 20 passengers, including six adult men, 11 adult women, one male child, and two female children.

Odunsi-Oyewole stated that “The lone crash involved one white Mazda E2000 bus with registration number KRD809XC. A total of twenty persons were involved in the crash, comprising six adult males, eleven adult females, one male child, and two female children.

“Out of the twenty persons involved, five persons were killed, comprising one adult male, two adult females, one male child, and one female child. Ten persons sustained varying degrees of injuries, while five persons escaped unhurt.”

He blamed the accident on speeding and overloading.

According to him, those injured were taken to the General Hospital in Ifo and Oreofe Specialist Hospital in Itori for medical attention, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the General Hospital morgue in Ifo.

The FRSC Sector Commander in Ogun State, Oludare Ogunjobi, expressed condolences to the victims’ families and warned motorists against speeding, overloading, and violating traffic rules.

He further advised drivers to comply with traffic regulations, particularly during the festive season.
