Five youths have won the #SmokeFree Nollywood Skit Challenge organised by Corporate Accountability & Public Participation Africa (CAPPA).

Karen Shamange won N40,000 as fourth runners-up, Godstime Osamuyimen, N60,000 as third runners-up, Ilemobola Michael got android phone as second runners-up, Popoola Abiola, laptop as first runner-up, and Peter Oluwaseun and Oluwafemi Ojurongbe, canon camera as overall wnners.

Director of Programmes in CAPPA, Philip Jackpor, said the challenge aims to engage youths to display their creativity and for govt to enforce the ban on tobacco.

“… same youth tobacco industry targets as smokers by making them see smoking as glamorous and adventurous, CAPPA decided to engage them to show their creativity, thereby recruiting them into the campaign for government to enforce ban on tobacco” he said.

Executive Director, Mr Akinbode Oluwafemi, said this year’s challenge began in May, with youths between 18-35 years.

“Reports show tobacco industry targets these same age bracket and those far younger as replacement smokers.

Akinbode said contestants created a video of two minutes and 20 seconds with messages on dangers of smoking and a call to action.

CAPPA uses the medium to stress the need for National Film & Video Censors Board (NFVCB) to enforce the  ban on Tobacco Advertising Promotion & Sponsorship (TAPS) with emphasis on movies and entertainment, among others.
