The Federal Road Safety Corps has dispatched road marshals equipped with approximately 750 patrol vehicles, 120 ambulances, 25 tow trucks, and 200 motorcycles for nationwide special operations throughout the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

In a statement released on Sunday in Abuja, Bisi Kazeem, the Corps Public Education Officer, revealed these details.

The deployed personnel, motorcycles, and vehicles will be present on the roads during the special operation, which is scheduled to take place from June 26 to July 1.

Mr. Kazeem further stated that the FRSC has organized its personnel for the 2022 Eid-El-Kabir celebration to enhance visibility and ensure safe travel for all road users before, during, and after the festivities.

He quoted the Corps Marshal, Dauda Ali Biu, as mandating the marshals to “enhance visibility and guarantee safe travels for all road users before, during and after the celebration.”

According to Mr. Biu, the objective of the special patrol operation is to decrease road traffic accidents, fatalities, injuries, and efficiently clear any obstructions on the highways, among other goals.

He mentioned that the FRSC has consistently followed the practice of organizing special patrol operations during festive seasons to prevent disorder on the roads.

“As such, this year’s Eid-el-Kabir would not be an exemption. Motorists must endeavour to avoid traffic violations and remain conscious of their safety.

Biu said that the corridors to be covered included Akwanga-Lafiya-Makurdi, Jos-Bauchi-Gombe, Sokoto-Tambuwal-Jega-Birnin Kebbi, Katsina-Kano-Wudil-Dutse-Azare-Potiskum and Kaduna-Saminaka-Jos.

He mentioned that the corps has deployed operational equipment such as radar guns and breathalyzers to enforce measures against drunk driving, dangerous overtaking, phone usage while driving, violations of driver’s licenses, lack of lane discipline, driving with expired or worn-out tires, and driving without a spare tire.

He also advised the personnel to ensure the removal of unsafe vehicles from the road and ensure that all pedestrian crossings are operational, while responding promptly to emergency calls within the FRSC’s designated response time.

The corps marshal emphasized the importance of motorists obeying traffic rules and regulations, as well as cooperating fully with the FRSC and other law enforcement agencies assigned to traffic management duties.

He informed that mobile courts would be active nationwide to prosecute persistent traffic offenders.

Furthermore, he mentioned that the National Traffic Radio 107.1 FM will continue to operate 24/7, providing real-time traffic updates.

He encouraged travelers to make use of the station and provided contact numbers for the situation office: 07054005754, 07054005712, 08056294021/08056295022, as well as the FRSC Toll-Free Number 122, to report any obstructions, accidents, or traffic congestion observed on the road for immediate intervention by the nearest FRSC Command.
