The Governor of Taraba State, Agbu Kefas, has authorized the allocation of one billion naira to settle the backlog of gratuity payments.

The most recent payments were made in 2011. Governor Kefas, upon signing the approval, instructed the Ministry of Finance to promptly disburse the overdue entitlements.

He expressed regret over the delays and affirmed his government’s commitment to supporting diligently serving workers.

In addition to the initial one billion naira allocation, the governor also sanctioned a monthly allocation of 200 million naira to clear the backlog and sustain the payments.

It is worth recalling that during his campaign, Kefas pledged to address the outstanding pensions and gratuity, despite the substantial backlog.

The governor emphasized the injustice of withholding entitlements from workers who have dedicated years of service to the state.

He reiterated his administration’s dedication to ensuring timely payments of salaries, pensions, and gratuities.

Promising pensioners the goodwill of Governor Kefas, Mrs. Rose Garba Ajiya, the Permanent Secretary of Pensions, affirmed that this initiative would bring an end to the long-standing anguish and frustration experienced by elderly pensioners.

She assured that she and her team are fully equipped to commence payments, with all records meticulously maintained and readily accessible.
