The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a lodger, Gideon Ebukwe, by unidentified gunmen at Ok Winners Hotel in Igbosoro, Igode, within the Sagamu Local Government Area.

Omolola Odutola, the police public relations officer, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Abeokuta, the state capital.

According to Odutola, Ebukwe was shot dead while attempting to escape after he was attacked by gunmen who had stormed the hotel where he was staying as a guest.

Reports indicate that despite trying to flee through a ceiling, Ebukwe was still shot by the assailants, who also took his belongings.

The public relations officer further stated that at around 3:30 p.m., the Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC) in Igbosoro, Atobatele, reported the incident as a suspected assassination.

“He said that a group of five unidentified armed men arrived at Ok Winners Hotel in Igbosoro, and attacked a guest, Gideon Ebukwe, whose address was currently unknown” she said.

“At the time of the attack, the hotel staff, mostly women, were locked in another room, while the assailants proceeded directly to the guest’s room.

“In an attempt to escape, the guest broke through the ceiling but was chased and shot dead, and his belongings were taken.

“Upon receiving the information, the divisional police officer led detectives to the scene. No arrest has been made, and the body was transported to Jas Medical Mortuary in Ogijo,” she said.

The police public relations officer stated that an investigation has begun to determine the nature of the crime and whether it is related to cult activities.

She added that the case will be transferred to the Police Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for a more thorough investigation.
