No fewer than 10 students of the Federal University of Lafia, Nasarawa State, were abducted by gunemn in the early hours of Thursday in the Gandu community, situated approximately two kilometers from the institution.

A resident in the vicinity, requesting anonymity, informed PUNCH Metro that the assailants infiltrated the student community opposite the university’s permanent site around 2 am on Thursday. They discharged gunfire into the air, causing the students to flee in panic for safety.

Speaking to journalists in Lafia about the incident, the University’s Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Ibrahim, stated that the exact number of abducted students had not been confirmed.

He said, “It is too early to ascertain the exact number of students because those affected are not living within the school, but off campus.”

Meanwhile, the university’s students initiated a peaceful protest, urging an end to the recurring abductions of their fellow students.

It is noteworthy that the university has experienced frequent student abductions in recent times. Despite collaborative efforts by the state government and security agencies to prevent further attacks on the institution, kidnappers continue to carry out their activities without hindrance.

When approached for information, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, stated that the details of the kidnapping were still unclear.

“This kidnapping details are sketchy.”

”The command has tried to get facts and identity of the victims but to no avail, thus we are finding it difficult to authenticate,” he said.
