The Lagos Safety Commission has closed down 19 event centers due to safety violations.

The Director General of the commission, Lanre Mojola, revealed this information on Thursday during an on-site evaluation of event centers in the state, as stated by the commission.

Mojola explained that the safety assessment initiative is an ongoing endeavor to uphold the commission’s mandate, particularly aiming for zero accidents, especially during the Yuletide season.

He mentioned that before the assessment, the commission had already notified all event owners through their respective associations about the necessity to adhere to safety best practices at all events. Additionally, event organizers were urged to register all events with 250 guests and above through the commission’s registration portal to obtain an Event Safety Permit.

He further mentioned that the commission had taken decisive measures to ensure compliance with fundamental safety standards, thus securing safer events. This involved sealing these event centers due to their failure to adhere to established safety protocols.

Among the event centers that were sealed include Lekki Coliseum, Leisure Park, La Madison, Haddasah, The Summit, Villa Part, De Dove, Magesty, The Podium, Celebrations Gardens, Tastee Event Centres, and White Stone, among others.

Emphasizing the commitment to ongoing efforts, he highlighted that the commission will continue to conduct regular inspections to guarantee the maintenance of safety standards across the events and hospitality sectors within the state.
