Gunmen kidnap businessman in Oyo community

Suspected gunmen on Monday night kidnapped a middle-aged businessman, Alhaji Wasiu Aleshinloye, from his home in Irawo community, Atisbo Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The abduction was confirmed by the Oyo State Police Command through its spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, who said the attackers reportedly followed the victim from Kraal Market in Ago-Are before carrying out the operation.

Reports indicate that the armed men shot repeatedly into the air to scare away residents and passers-by, causing widespread panic in the area.

Amid the attack, a 10-year-old girl, Modinat Aleshinloye, was hit by a stray bullet and suffered gunshot injuries. She is currently undergoing treatment at an undisclosed hospital, while the whereabouts of the abducted businessman remain unknown at the time of this report.

Sources also disclosed that the kidnappers had not contacted the victim’s family or made any ransom request.

Commenting on the incident, DSP Olayinka said: “A case of abduction was reported at Tede Division on May 11, 2026 at about 10:20 p.m.“

“Preliminary investigation revealed that one Alhaji Wasiu Aleshinloye was allegedly trailed from Kraal Market, Ago-Are, to his filling station in Irawo and subsequently to his residence, where he was abducted at gunpoint by three armed men to an unknown destination.“

“During the incident, one Modinat Aleshinloye, female, aged 10, sustained gunshot injuries and was immediately rushed to hospital for medical attention and extraction of pellets.”

The police spokesperson further stated that detectives who inspected the scene recovered three spent ammunition shells, now undergoing ballistic analysis, along with three face caps suspected to belong to the attackers. He added that tactical and intelligence-driven efforts were ongoing to rescue the victim safely and apprehend those responsible.
