Unidentified gunmen have abducted a medical doctor affiliated with the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) in Nnewi, Anambra State.
The incident occurred just three days after Governor Chukwuma Soludo launched the joint security operation, Operation Udo Ga-Achị (“Peace Must Reign”), aimed at tackling crime and restoring security across the state.
The victim, identified as Dr. Collinus Onuigbo, a neurosurgeon, was reportedly kidnapped late Tuesday night near his residence, located a short distance from the Teaching Hospital.
Family members, distressed by the incident, are making efforts to ensure his safe release.
Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the abduction, stating that the command has launched an operation to rescue the victim.
He noted that State Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Obono-Itam, has directed immediate action, with officers working on leads to apprehend the perpetrators and secure the doctor’s release.
