Suspected gunmen have abducted a pregnant woman in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The spokesman of the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed that the case has been reported to them.

“One Ogunbunmi Lateef of Oke Lantoro reported that his pregnant wife due for delivery left home for State Hospital Ijaiye Abeokuta,” she said on her X handle.

“The woman simply identified as Mrs Rahmatullah Ogunbunmi was reportedly kidnapped on Thursday by unidentified armed men on her way to the state general hospital, Ijaye, Abeokuta, the state capital.”

The victim, who was on her way to deliver her baby, had left her home in Oke Lantoro for the State General Hospital in Ijaiye, Abeokuta, when she was abducted.

Her husband, Ogunbunmi Lateef, received a WhatsApp message notifying him of his wife’s kidnapping.

‘Absurd, Sad’

This incident is said to have devastated the husband and he is pleading with the combined security forces to help with the rescue of his wife.

“I can tell you that the husband is no longer himself, the sad incident has really rattled him. He was expecting to be informed that his wife had successfully put to bed not that she had been abducted,” a source close to the family told Channels Television.

“It is not a palatable situation at all. We are all praying that the Almighty God will intervene. We are praying that the police, the NSCDC, and even the military will combine strength to rescue the woman hale and hearty. This incident is just so absurd and sad.”
