There was pandemonium after gunmen killed Valentine Enwerem, an auto mechanic, in Imo State on Friday night.

He was killed at a location known as U-turn on the Nkwo Orji market junction on the Owerri-Okigwe Road

The assailants took three people he was transporting in a car and then shot him dead.

The gunmen’s continuing shooting as they fled the scene spread terror across the neighborhood.

The deceased’s coworkers told our correspondent on Saturday at the deceased’s workplace in the Orji Mechanic Village that the killers went towards the Okigwe end of the road after killing him and kidnapping the people inside his car.

One of his colleagues said, “They said they didn’t come for him and asked him to cooperate with them. They later shot him dead and zoomed towards the Okigwe end of the road after kidnapping the people in the vehicle.

“He was from the Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State and his wife sells things besides his workshop. This is very unfortunate. We are pained and highly embittered by his loss.”

Additionally, two APC chieftains were abducted on the same Friday evening from two different places in the state’s Isiala Mbano LGA.

A politician/businessman from the Ikeduru LGA known as “Ability” was abducted at a pharmacy in Amaraku while Chief Godson Obijiaku was abducted at his village in Amauzairi.

People fled inside their homes and closed for the day out of fear as a result of the development in the neighborhood.

A source that does not want to be mentioned said, “Chief Obijiaku, an aspirant for the upcoming LGA Chairmanship election, has been kidnapped.

“As they approached Amaraku, they saw a Tundra vehicle parked in front of a pharmaceutical shop, they stopped, went there and kidnapped Chief Ability and released multiple gunshots as they made their way out of the environment. The area is panicking. Government should do something.”

As at the time of this report, Michael Abattam, the state police spokesperson, had not yet responded to questions about the incident.
