Violence erupted along the route to the Tinubu–Dikko campaign flag-off in Funtua Zone, Katsina State, on Wednesday, leaving several supporters of the All Progressives Congress injured and their property destroyed.

The victims, who said they were travelling in the convoy of Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Radda, alleged that groups of angry youths and hoodlums attacked them on their way to the campaign venue.

Radda was scheduled to present his administration’s Building Your Future scorecard at the event.

Some of the affected supporters told reporters that mobile phones, clothing and other personal belongings were destroyed during the incident, while several people sustained varying degrees of injuries.

According to the victims, the attackers, whom they described as armed with machetes, knives, stones and bottles, assaulted them without provocation.

“We were simply on our way to attend the campaign flag-off when we encountered some angry youths who attacked us with stones and bottles. Many people were injured, and our property was destroyed. We cannot afford to replace what we lost,” one of the victims said.

The victims appealed to security agencies and relevant authorities to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice.

Earlier, stones were reportedly seen scattered across the road at the Malumfashi town roundabout linking Bakori Local Government Area, while several vehicles had their windscreens damaged, suggesting that disturbances had occurred in the area.

Despite the disruption, Radda proceeded with the presentation of his administration’s Building Your Future scorecard.

During the presentation, the governor highlighted achievements recorded since assuming office and outlined ongoing projects across key sectors ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The statewide campaign is designed to strengthen grassroots engagement by taking the administration’s performance record and development agenda directly to communities across the Funtua, Daura and Katsina senatorial zones.

The exercise covers all 34 local government areas and 361 wards in the state.

Authorities had not issued an official statement on the reported attack at the time of filing this report.
