A family of four—consisting of a husband, wife, and their two children—were brutally killed by unidentified gunmen on Thursday night in Isseke, located in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The victims have been identified as members of the family of Ichie Kennedy Igboanugo from Ekwuru Isseke (Ichie Akuruoulo 1 of Isseke).

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants broke into the family’s residence while they were asleep, murdered them in cold blood, and left their bodies on the floors of their rooms.

The motive behind the attack remains unknown.

A police source who confirmed the incident said the victims’ bodies had been recovered and taken to a mortuary.

The source also noted that a joint security task force had been deployed to the area to forestall any further violence.

“Preliminary information suggests the gunmen attacked the family unprovoked. The bodies of the victims have been recovered and deposited at the morgue, and investigations are ongoing.

“The command has expressed condolences to the relatives and friends of the victims and is working to apprehend the perpetrators.

“The area has been reinforced by the joint security team, and further developments will be communicated as the investigations unfold,” the source stated.
