Health worker allegedly commits suicide after boyfriend’s death in Adamawa

A female health worker affiliated with the Primary Health Care Centre in Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa State, named Florence Vandi, has reportedly taken her own life while expressing grief over the death of her boyfriend.

Florence, a resident of Viniklang in the Girei Local Government Area and originally from Michika LGA, ended her life on December 12, 2023, by ingesting a local substance believed to be a toxic insecticide commonly known as Sniper. The information was conveyed in a statement by the Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, on Tuesday. The 22-year-old took her own life using the mentioned substance.

Nguroje said, “The deceased took the unfortunate decision few hours after the death of her boyfriend, Nuhu Boniface, who died while receiving treatment at the hospital.”

“Investigation further revealed that until her death, Florence was a health worker attached to Girei Primary Health Care Centre.”

The Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola, conveyed his sorrow regarding the incident and urged the public to refrain from taking matters into their own hands. He encouraged people to report any suspicious activities in their neighborhoods to the police.
