ICPC Case: Immigration officer receives seven-year jail term over passport fraud

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has successfully prosecuted Quadri Adeyinka, an employee of the Nigeria Immigration Service, for involvement in passport fraud.

In a statement released by the Commission’s spokesperson, Ag. Director of Public Enlightenment and Education, Demola Bakare, FSI, on Monday, it was disclosed that Adeyinka was arraigned before Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Apo, Abuja, on a four-count charge related to gratification, conferment of corrupt advantage, and cheating, contravening the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000, and the Penal Code Act.

During the trial, ICPC’s counsel, Dr. Osuobeni Akponimisingha, presented evidence detailing how Adeyinka deceived Ovie Ojeffia by promising to regularize the latter’s international passport in exchange for ₦100,000, but failed to do so.

Following the victim’s petition to ICPC, an investigation ensued, leading to Adeyinka’s arraignment.

In his verdict, Justice Onwuegbuzie found Adeyinka guilty on all counts and sentenced him to seven years each for counts 1 and 2, five years for count 4, and two years for count 3.

These sentences are to be served concurrently.
