The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Tuesday decorated newly promoted senior police officers with their new ranks at the Goodluck Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, in a ceremony marked by celebration and pride.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, the event underscored the IGP’s dedication to recognizing hard work, diligence, and professionalism within the Force.
During the ceremony, one Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) was elevated to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), four Commissioners of Police (CPs) were promoted to AIGs, and eleven Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCs) advanced to substantive Commissioners of Police (CPs).
Among those decorated were DIG Mohammed Dankwara; AIGs Denimen Abibo, Umar Madaki, Nkechi Eze, and Garba Nzukwen; as well as CPs Naziru Kankarofi, Nendel Gomwalk, Tijani Fatai, Aniefok Akpan, and Moorkwap Dongshal, among others.
The promoted officers were part of 923 personnel who successfully completed a transparent promotion exercise organized by the Police Service Commission, which involved both written examinations and interviews following recommendations from the IGP.
Distinguished guests at the event included Senator Simon Lalong, former Governor of Plateau State; Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa; Senator Abdul-Aziz Yari, former Governor of Zamfara; Senator Tony Nwoye (Anambra North); Senator Iya Abbas (Adamawa Central); and Senator Ede Dafinone (Delta Central).
Also present were Hon. Alhaji Ahmadu, Minister of State for Regional Development, FCT; Ambassador Gabriel Aduda, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence; Alhaji (Chief) Dr. Abdul-Raheem Oladimeji, OFR, Founder of Al-Hikmah University; members of the Force Management Team; serving and retired senior officers; and family members of the newly promoted officers.
In his address, IGP Egbetokun congratulated the officers and urged them to maintain the highest ethical standards, adopt community-oriented and intelligence-led policing strategies, and embrace innovation to stay ahead of evolving criminal threats.
He also charged them to lead with integrity, fairness, and a renewed sense of justice while serving as exemplary leaders within the Force.
