Ikeja Electric has apologised to its customers over the ongoing electricity supply disruptions affecting several areas within its coverage, blaming the situation on gas supply challenges that are limiting power generation on the national grid.
In a public notice released by the company’s management on Friday, the distribution company acknowledged the inconvenience caused to households and businesses, while assuring customers that steps were being taken to address the problem.
“We understand the inconvenience the current power supply challenges may be causing you, and we sincerely apologise for the disruption to your daily activities,” the disco’s statement partly read.
The company explained that the disruption is connected to issues affecting generation capacity on the national grid, which has led to increased load shedding across a number of feeders.
“The situation is due to gas supply constraints affecting power generation on the National Grid, which has led to increased load shedding across our feeders within the network,” the disco stated.
The electricity distributor also reassured customers that key stakeholders in the power sector were working to resolve the issue and improve power stability.
“Please be assured that relevant stakeholders are working tirelessly to address the generation shortfall and restore stability to the grid,” the notice added.
According to the company, it is closely monitoring the situation and will continue to keep customers informed as progress is made.
“We are closely monitoring developments and will continue to keep you informed as improvements occur,” it said.
The management also thanked customers for their patience and understanding during the ongoing supply difficulties.
“We truly appreciate your patience, cooperation, and understanding during this period. Thank you for bearing with us,” the company added.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Independent System Operator revealed on Thursday that electricity generation in Nigeria had dropped further below the 4,000-megawatt mark due to ongoing gas supply shortages affecting thermal power plants nationwide.
In a statement titled “Gas Constraints Lead to Temporary Reduction in Power Generation,” the grid operator said the national grid produced only 3,940.53 megawatts as of 5:00 a.m. on Thursday, highlighting the continued fuel supply problems restricting output from gas-fired plants across the country.
