The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced its 2026 recruitment exercise, inviting qualified Nigerians to apply for entry-level positions across Grade Levels 07, 08, 09, 10 and 12.
The application portal opened on Monday, July 20, and is expected to close on Monday, July 27, according to a notice published by the commission.
INEC said the recruitment exercise is designed to strengthen its capacity in electoral administration, voter registration, data management and election logistics as it carries out its constitutional responsibilities.
Interested applicants are expected to create an account on the commission’s recruitment portal, complete the application form and upload the required documents.
INEC emphasised that the application process is free and warned applicants against providing false information or submitting forged documents. It said anyone found guilty would be disqualified and could face prosecution.
Available positions
The vacancies are divided into three main cadres.
Professional Cadre — Grade Levels 09, 10 and 12
Available positions include:
- Accountant
- Clinical Officer
- Lawyer
- ICT Officer
- Engineer
- Quantity Surveyor
Applicants for these positions are expected to possess a bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification and, where applicable, a master’s degree in a relevant field from a recognised institution.
They must also possess relevant professional certifications, where required, including NBA, COREN, NSE, NIQS, ICAN, ANAN or CPN.
Other requirements include at least two years of post-qualification experience, an NYSC discharge or exemption certificate, as well as strong analytical, communication, problem-solving and ICT skills.
Administrative Officer II (Registration Area Officer) — Grade Level 08
Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree, Higher National Diploma or equivalent qualification in the Social Sciences, Humanities or Sciences from a recognised institution.
They must also have an NYSC discharge, exemption or exclusion certificate, demonstrate knowledge of data management and record keeping, and be proficient in Microsoft Office and other ICT tools.
Executive Officer (Registration Officer) — Grade Level 07
Applicants are required to possess a National Certificate in Education or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.
They must also have knowledge of computer operations and data handling, alongside good communication and organisational skills.
General requirements
INEC said applicants must also:
- Present a valid certificate of state of origin signed by the chairman or secretary of their local government.
- Be certified physically and mentally fit by a government medical officer.
- Be no older than 35 years at the time of application.
- Be of good character and have no criminal conviction.
- Be willing to serve in any part of Nigeria.
- Demonstrate integrity, discipline and commitment to public service.
How to apply
Interested candidates are required to create an applicant account using their personal details, email address and National Identification Number.
After verifying their email address, applicants can log in, select their preferred cadre and vacancy, and upload the required documents.
The documents include a passport photograph, birth certificate or declaration of age, O’Level result, relevant degree, HND, ND or NCE certificate, local government identification certificate and NYSC certificate, where applicable.
Applicants are advised to carefully review their information before submitting their forms, as INEC stated that a selected vacancy cannot be changed after submission.
The commission added that only shortlisted candidates would be invited to participate in the next stage of the recruitment process.
