Former Bendel Insurance defender Benjamin Tanimu has completed a two-year transfer to Tanzanian Premier League club Singida Black Stars.
The move represents another important step in the defender’s developing professional career.
Before joining the Tanzanian side, Tanimu gained international experience with English club Crawley Town and Moroccan outfit Maghreb de Fès.
The Super Eagles defender is expected to add leadership, experience and defensive strength to Singida Black Stars ahead of the new season.
Tanimu’s progression from the Nigerian domestic league to professional football abroad continues to serve as an inspiration to young footballers in Edo State, highlighting the opportunities that can come through dedication, discipline and consistent hard work.
Reacting to the transfer, the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Comrade Philip Shaibu, expressed confidence in Tanimu’s ability to succeed in Tanzania.
Shaibu described the defender as hardworking, disciplined and committed to improving throughout his career.
He recalled that Tanimu developed his football foundation within the Bendel Insurance system during his time as Deputy Governor of Edo State. Shaibu said it had been a source of pride to watch the player progress from a promising youngster into a Super Eagles defender.
According to him, Tanimu’s career progression demonstrates the importance of sustained investment in grassroots sports development, which he said could help produce world-class athletes.
The NIS Director-General also reaffirmed his commitment to using sports as a tool for youth development and empowerment, stressing that football and other sporting activities can create opportunities for young Nigerians regardless of their social or economic background.
Shaibu wished Tanimu success in his new chapter with Singida Black Stars and expressed optimism that the defender would continue to make Nigeria proud on the international stage.
