Six killed after lightning strikes farm workers in Adamawa — Police

Six people have died after a lightning strike in Dadiri-Tirigali village, Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa State, according to the state police command.

The incident occurred at about 4:00 p.m. on Sunday during heavy rainfall, the police said.

In a statement issued on Monday, the spokesperson for the Adamawa Police Command, Suleiman Nguroje, said the command received an emergency report about the incident from the Ganye Divisional Headquarters.

“The report said that lightning had struck nine persons who were working on a farm in the village,” Nguroje said.

He explained that police officers were immediately deployed to the scene after the report was received.

“On receipt of the report, personnel from the division were promptly deployed to the scene and, on reaching there, found the victims lying unconscious on the ground.

“Three of the victims later regained consciousness, while the remaining six were confirmed dead by medical personnel.”
