The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has updated its website to reflect David Mark as national chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Rauf Aregbesola as national secretary, following a supreme court judgement.
The update, observed on Thursday evening, reverses INEC’s earlier move in April when it removed the Mark-led leadership from its portal based on an appeal court ruling linked to the party’s internal dispute.
The leadership tussle had involved the Mark-led faction and Nafiu Bala, a former national vice-chairman, both laying claim to control of the party.
However, the supreme court earlier directed Mark to return to the federal high court for the hearing and resolution of issues arising from the crisis.
In a unanimous decision delivered by a five-member panel led by Mohammed Garba, the apex court criticised the appeal court’s directive that parties should maintain status quo ante bellum.
Following the ruling, INEC restored the ADC leadership page, now displaying the full list of party officials led by Mark.
