The Federal University of Technology, Babura, Jigawa State, has introduced a full tuition waiver for newly admitted students in its Mathematics and Physics degree programmes.
The initiative, according to the university, is aimed at encouraging greater interest in science-related courses while helping to bridge the shortage of professionals in STEMM fields.
The development was announced in a statement issued by the institution’s Registrar, Mrs Fatima Muhammad, on Wednesday.
The university explained that the initiative was part of its efforts to make science education more affordable and accessible, particularly for students from underserved communities.
“To address this gap, the Management of the Federal University of Technology, Babura has approved a waiver of school fees for candidates admitted into the B.Sc Mathematics and B.Sc Physics programmes,” the statement read.
Under the scheme, successful beneficiaries will be exempted from tuition and other school charges throughout their studies.
“Beneficiaries will enjoy 100% waiver of tuition and school fees,” Mrs Muhammad stated in the announcement.
Management said the policy was also intended to improve enrolment in Mathematics and Physics, which are considered essential to technological development and innovation but often attract fewer applicants.
The university further stated that applicants who initially selected another course or institution could qualify for the opportunity if they satisfied the admission requirements.
“Interested and eligible candidates are advised to effect a change of institution and course to FUT, Babura at any JAMB CBT Centre,” she added.
Prospective students were advised to contact the university’s admissions office for clarification on eligibility, the change-of-course process and other requirements.
The institution said the waiver is applicable to students admitted during the ongoing admission cycle.
