Joint troops, DSS operation thwart planned terrorist attack in Kano

Joint troops of the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services (DSS) have effectively thwarted a potential assault on Kano State by insurgent groups.

In an official statement released by spokesperson Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Army disclosed that a pre-dawn raid operation was executed at the early hours of today, Friday, November 3, 2023.

Nwachukwu explained that the 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, in close collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS), conducted a meticulously coordinated raid operation in the Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State.

The objective of this operation was to uncover and apprehend suspected Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) believed to be planning a significant operation in Kano.

“Consequently, the troops swiftly swung into action and apprehended two BHT suspects, who are now in custody,” he said.

During the operation, the combined forces of the Nigerian Army and the DSS successfully retrieved five AK-47 rifles, along with five magazines for these rifles, one Rocket Propelled Gun (RPG), and five RPG explosive devices.

Additionally, the operation yielded six hand grenades, five sets of desert camouflage uniforms, 10 magazine pouches, and various materials used in the creation of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

Nwachukwu highlighted that the execution of this operation serves as a testament to their unwavering determination and the collaborative efforts between the Nigerian Army and other security agencies in combating insurgency and addressing various security threats.

In his statement, he emphasized that the successful raid operation underlines the steadfast dedication of the Nigerian Army to safeguarding the lives and assets of our citizens.

He further stated that the Army’s determination to combat and diminish insurgency and various security issues throughout the nation remains unwavering.

“We entreat members of the public to be vigilant and collaborate with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could aid in the ongoing operations to curb insecurity,” Nwachukwu said.
