The All Progressives Congress Governorship primary held on May 26, 2022, has been declared invalid by the Federal High Court in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State, and a new governorship primary must be held within 14 days.
On November 14, 2022, the presiding judge, Justice Agatha Okeke, handed down her ruling. She also disqualified the party’s Governorship candidate, Akanimo Udofia, from taking part in the primary because he was not an APC member in the state.
In accordance with section 77 sub-section 3 of the Electoral Act, the court further directed the Independent National Electoral Commission not to accept Akan Udofia as a candidate.
