Namibia’s third president, Hage Geingob has died at a hospital in Windhoek at the age of 82.

Vice President Nangolo Mbumba stated on NBC TV that Geingob had died on Saturday morning.

“By his side was his wife and his dear children,” Mbumba said.

Geingob emerged president in 2015 and was on his second term. He became the country’s first prime minister in 1990 and served until 2002 under former president Sam Nujoma.

On January 8, 2024, Geingob announced that he was diagnosed with cancer.

Geingob returned from the US on Wednesday where he received medical treatment for cancerous cells.
The President was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of a hospital in Windhoek following his recent return from the United States of America where he received medical treatment as a prelude to him undergoing chemotherapy.
