The leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria has warned that it may embark on industrial action if the escalating cases of terrorism, banditry and kidnappings across the country are not brought under control.

The warning was issued during a joint media briefing held on the sidelines of the 114th International Labour Conference in Geneva.

The labour centres expressed concern over the worsening security situation and indicated that continued attacks and abductions could force organised labour to take action.

The union leaders also rejected claims by some state governors that discussions were ongoing with workers regarding a proposed ₦100,000 minimum wage, stating that such claims did not accurately reflect the current state of negotiations on workers’ welfare.

Further details are expected as more information emerges.
