Stakeholders and attendees at the current policy meeting of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) voiced their objections when the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, announced that only candidates aged 18 and above would now be eligible for admission into tertiary institutions in the country.

Mamman reiterated his stance that candidates under 18 were contributing to crises in the nation’s universities, sparking immediate protests from participants at the event held in Abuja’s Body of Benchers’ auditorium.

Following the minister’s announcement, loud protests erupted throughout the hall with attendees vehemently shouting, “No, no, no.”

Despite the strong opposition, the minister stood by his decision, citing it as an existing federal government policy aimed at addressing significant challenges faced by tertiary institutions, particularly universities.
