The Supreme Court has scheduled for Thursday the delivery of its reserved judgment on two appeals aimed at invalidating President Bola Tinubu’s election.
According to reports, it was learned that the highest court informed all concerned parties of the judgment date on Wednesday via a notice signed by one of its registrars.
This update follows closely on the heels of a seven-member panel of the court hearing the appeals and subsequently reserving its decision, shortly after the involved parties presented their final arguments.
The Supreme Court received the appeals from Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Mr. Peter Obi, the candidate of the Labour Party (LP).
Atiku and Obi have contested the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) declaration of President Bola Tinubu from the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the legitimate winner of the February 25 presidential election.
They are seeking the Supreme Court’s intervention to overturn the September 6 judgment of the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC), which dismissed their claims of electoral irregularities favoring the ruling party.
Beyond their challenge to President Tinubu’s qualification to partake in the competition, Atiku, the runner-up, and Obi, who secured the third position, contended that Tinubu did not obtain the majority of valid votes needed to be declared the victor of the election.
