JUST IN: Supreme Court uphold Fintiri’s election as Adamawa governor

The election victory of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri in Adamawa State has been upheld by the Supreme Court.

Justice John Okoro, who authored and delivered the main judgment on Wednesday, rejected the appeal brought forth by Aisha Dahiru, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The five-member panel, led by Justice Okoro, dismissed her appeal on the grounds of lacking merit and emphasized that the actions of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Hudu Ari, were deemed irresponsible and criminal.

Justice Okoro further asserted that the announcement of results is the duty of the returning officer to prevent disorder and chaos.

According to him, the Electoral Act clearly designates the returning officer as the exclusive authority responsible for declaring election results.
