The Kano State Government has taken proactive measures to control the increasing instances of diphtheria disease by establishing three treatment centers within the state.
Dr. Abubakar Yusuf, the Commissioner of Health, revealed this information during a recent update on the disease outbreak.
He expressed that a state like Kano should not have been grappling with such an outbreak, but the situation was worsened due to the previous administration’s failure to immunize the population.
Yusuf disclosed that the number of admissions has been rising steadily, with over one hundred and thirty (130) individuals being admitted last Monday alone.
The commissioner also mentioned that Governor Yusuf has promptly instructed the ministry to take immediate action in order to control the spread of this life-threatening disease. Additionally, three dedicated centers have been set up to provide treatment and accommodation for affected individuals.
Furthermore, he urged the public not to delay seeking medical help if they experience any symptoms listed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
