Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari has inaugurated the construction of a flyover at the Government Reserve Area (GRA) roundabout in the city.

The project, which will cost N4.32 billion, has awarded the flyover and six service lanes to Mother Cat Construction Company and is expected to be finished in twelve months.

In his remarks at Wednesday’s groundbreaking ceremony, Masari stated that the city has joined the league of states that have modernised their capitals and other major cities to accommodate the rapid expansion of businesses and population.

He stated that fifty percent of the total contract sum had been paid to the contractor to expedite project completion.

His administration had a robust plan for remaking the city of Katsina, he said, if not for the lack of funds caused by a variety of obstacles, such as low oil prices, the COVID-19 pandemic, and issues of insecurity.

The Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Alhaji Tasiu Dahiru Dandagoro, stated earlier in his address that the flyover highlighted the Masari administration’s urban renewal programme.

He stated that the two similar projects at Kofar Kaura and Kofar Kwaya were proceeding according to schedule, noting that they had reached 80 and 40 percent completion, respectively, and would be completed on time.

Also in his remarks, the contractor, Mr. Maroune Ghostine, assured that his company would deliver the project on time and to the required standard.

He stated that the modern flyover will serve multiple purposes, such as streamlining traffic control in the city, thereby preventing a great deal of wasted time; reducing noise, air, and other environmental pollution; enhancing pedestrian safety; and assisting communities with business expansion.
