Kwara varsity elevates 45 academics to professorial rank

The Governing Council of Kwara State University, Malete, has approved the promotion of 45 staff members to the professorial cadre.

According to a statement by the acting Director of University Relations, Profe Saeedat Aliyu, made available to the press on Thursday, April 2, 2026, the ratification occurred at the 78th regular meeting of the council on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

The statement noted, “20 among the staff attained full professorship, while 25 others were promoted to associate professorship.”

In the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Professor Henry Olawale Sawyerr, specialising in Environmental Health Toxicology and Risk Management, was elevated. The Faculty of Agriculture produced three professors: Professor Olayinka Jelil Yusuf (Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology), Professor Kayode Ayantoye (Agricultural Development and Policy), and Professor Isaac Ade Afe (Agronomy).

The Faculty of Arts saw four professors promoted: Professor Tajudeen Yusuf (Arabic Linguistics), Professor Saeedat Bolajoko Aliyu (Environment and Gender in African Studies), Professor Reuben Kehinde Akano (African Literature and Cultural Studies), and Professor Ayoola Oladunke Aransi (Yoruba Literature, Cultural and Gender Studies).

In the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, six professors were promoted, including Professor Sikiru Ottan Abdulrahman (Materials Development, Mining Operations, Machineries and Corrosion Phenomena) and Professor Lambe Mutalub Adesina (Electrical Power Systems, Control and Renewable Energy).

The Faculty of Management and Social Sciences elevated Professor Shehu Usman Adam (Environmental Economics) and Professor Zekeri Abu (Entrepreneurial Marketing and International Business).

The Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences produced four professors: Professor Adeyinka Elizabeth Ajiboye and Professor Majekodunmi Rachael Adedayo (Food/Industrial Microbiology), Professor Lukman Bola Abdulrauf (Analytical and Environmental Chemistry), and Professor Jimoh Ajadi (Mineral Exploration/Geochemistry).

Newly promoted associate professors include Dr Wasiu Awoyale (Food Processing and Storage Technology) in the Faculty of Agriculture; Dr Hakeem Olawale, Dr Michael Olanrewaju Agboola, Dr Bamidele Olusegun Fawenu, Dr Adesina Abiodun Olubitan, and Dr Peter Olanrewaju Awojobi in the Faculty of Arts; Dr Adedayo Adesokan and Dr Joshua Sule Mamman in the Faculty of Education; Dr Morakinyo Wasiu Kareem and Dr Mutiu Akinpelu in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology; Dr Jumoke Falilat Ajao, Dr Abdulsalam Olaniyi Sulaiman, and Dr Akinbowale Nathaniel Babatunde in the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology; Dr Nurudeen Bello Ahmed, Dr Ismaila Yusuf, Dr Lukman Adebayo-Oke Abdulrauf, Dr Ahmed Oluwatobi Adekunle, and Dr Musa Ilias Biala in the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences; and Dr Damilola Temitope Ogundele, Dr Wahab Adesina Osunniran, Dr Gabriel Babatunde Egbeyale, and Dr Risqot Ibrahim-Garba in the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences.
