Lady Gaga plays new music on streets of Paris

Lady Gaga has taken to the streets of Paris to give fans a sneak peek of her upcoming seventh album.

Currently in France for the 2024 Olympics, where she performed the cabaret song “Mon Truc en Plumes” during Friday’s opening ceremony, Gaga decided to share some new music with her fans after attending swimming and women’s gymnastics events over the weekend.

She also reportedly confirmed her engagement to entrepreneur Michael Polansky.

On Sunday, Gaga took to Instagram to express her gratitude, writing: “I’m so deeply touched by French fans this week outside the hotel. I’m gonna come out and say goodbye tonight – with a few seconds of #LG7.”

Shortly after, she emerged outside and played a metallic electronic beat from her laptop. The initial snippet lasted about 20 seconds, with Gaga enthusiastically pumping her fist as she popped out of the sunroof of her limousine. She then closed the laptop with a giggle and a kiss before disappearing back into the car.

Fans, who had been chanting her name and singing her songs, were delighted when Gaga reappeared a minute later and said, “I’m sorry, I’m gonna do one more.”

She played a second clip reminiscent of the gothic pop sound from her “Artpop” album, and mouthed a lyric that seemed to be: “I’ve become what was holding me.”

After posing for photos, she returned to her hotel with the message: “And for the rest, you have to wait!”

The new album will be her first solo release since 2020’s “Chromatica,” which featured hits like “Stupid Love” and “Rain On Me.” Gaga also released a duets album, “Love For Sale,” with Tony Bennett in 2021, which won Best Traditional Pop Album at the subsequent Grammy Awards.

This impromptu Paris moment wrapped up a busy weekend for the star.

On Friday, she helped launch the Olympics with a performance of “Mon Truc en Plumes” (My Thing with Feathers) during one of the many eyebrow-raising moments at the opening ceremony.

Accompanied by dancers carrying huge pink pom poms, she sang in French and played the piano while descending a golden staircase along the banks of the Seine.

It was later revealed that the segment had been pre-recorded due to heavy rain in Paris, which made the stage dangerously slippery.

Despite this precaution, one dancer still slipped and nearly fell into the river midway through the performance.

Engagement confirmed?

Gaga also attended several Olympics events across the opening weekend, and was introduced to French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal during Sunday’s swimming finals.

Mr Attal posted a video of the encounter to TikTok, captioned: “Thank you Lady Gaga for your stunning performance at the opening ceremony. It was breathtaking.”

However, fans were more captivated by the moment when Gaga introduced Michael Polansky, her boyfriend of four years, to the Prime Minister as “my fiancé.”

The BBC has reached out to the singer and actress’s publicists for confirmation.

Meanwhile, away from Paris, the star appeared in the second trailer for the upcoming movie “Joker: Folie à Deux.”

In the film, Gaga plays Harley Quinn, a psychologist-turned-criminal often depicted as the sidekick, love interest, and chaotic catalyst for Batman villain The Joker.

Joaquin Phoenix returns in the title role, following his Oscar-nominated performance in the 2019 original.

The sequel, directed by Todd Phillips, is being billed as a “musical psychological thriller”.
