The All Progressives Congress in Lagos has postponed the inauguration of its newly elected state executives following the death of the party’s Assistant Publicity Secretary-elect, Yesiro Karamo.
Yesiro reportedly died on Wednesday, just hours after attending the Lagos State APC congress held on Tuesday at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, where he was elected Assistant Publicity Secretary.
The Lagos APC confirmed the development in a statement released on Thursday by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo.
The statement read, “The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress received with profound shock and deep sorrow the news of the sudden demise of our newly elected Assistant Publicity Secretary, Karamo Yesiro.
“Yesiro’s passing is a painful and tragic loss to our great party at a time when his energy, commitment, and passion for progressive politics were most needed.
“Having just been entrusted with the responsibility of serving in the State Executive Council, he embodied dedication, loyalty, and an unwavering belief in the ideals of our party.”
Party members and supporters had gathered at the party secretariat in Acme, Ogba, on Thursday morning for the scheduled inauguration before learning that the event had been postponed in honour of the late Yesiro.
Following the announcement, party leaders left the secretariat to pay a condolence visit to the family of the deceased.
Some party members later circulated information indicating that the inauguration of the executives had been rescheduled for Friday.
The newly elected Lagos APC executive committee, which will serve a four-year term, is headed by Mr Cornelius Ojelabi.
Other officials elected at the congress include Moshood Olanrewaju as Deputy Chairman; Adeola Jokomba as Secretary; Azizat Mariam as Assistant Secretary; Seye Oladejo as Publicity Secretary; Babajide Sunday as Vice Chairman; Shola Eletu as Woman Leader; and Ayodele Adewale as Organising Secretary.
The congress held on Tuesday was attended by the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; the Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat; the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa; the leader of the Governor’s Advisory Council, Tajudeen Olusi; and the Secretary to the State Government, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin.
