The Lagos state government has approved the appointment of a new governing council for the Lagos State University (LASU).
The approval was confirmed in a letter signed on Friday by Bode Agoro, the state’s head of service.
According to the circular, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, has endorsed the appointment of the 11-member council.
The government reiterated its commitment to enhancing the quality of education across state-owned higher institutions.
“In continuation of this administration’s commitment to improve the quality of education in the State owned Higher Institutions, it is hereby notified for general information that Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State, has approved the membership of the Lagos State University Governing Council,” the statement reads.
“Accordingly, all Accounting Officers are enjoined to note the contents of this Circular and give it the deserved Service-wide publicity.”
The council will be chaired by Babatunde Ogala, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). Other members include Oluseyi Badmus, Bode Makanjuola, Mojisola Tolagbe Taiwo, Shaffudeen Amuwo, and Rafiu Adisa Ebiti.
Additional members are Kofo Durosimi Etti, Farouk Gumel, Adenike Akanbi, Biodun Hundeyin, and Remi Desalu.
Ogala, a solicitor and capital market consultant, is also an expert in business recovery and insolvency practice.
He earned his law degree from the University of Jos (UNIJOS) in 1985 and was called to the bar in 1986.
Ogala previously worked as an associate counsel at Femi Okunnu Chambers and later served as the general legal adviser for Guardian Press Limited for five years.
He was also a member of the Lagos state house of assembly between 2007 and 2011.
