The Lagos State Government has closed off eight commercial shops on Dosunmu Street in Lagos Island for housing firecrackers in hazardous conditions.
The decision to seal these shops was made in order to safeguard lives and property from potential fires and explosions, as highlighted by Gbenga Oyerinde, the Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations.
Oyerinde emphasized the state government’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing the safety of all Lagosians and their belongings. He further emphasized that ensuring the well-being of residents in Lagos State remains a paramount objective for the government.
The Commissioner mentioned that the Lagos State Safety Commission, as one of the agencies falling under the Ministry, will continue to diligently carry out its responsibilities by identifying unsafe conditions and taking necessary measures to mitigate them.
He highlighted that individuals or marketplaces found openly disregarding safety regulations will be subject to the full extent of legal consequences.
