The Lagos State Police Command has taken delivery of additional operational equipment from the Lagos State Security Trust Fund ahead of the planned rollout of the Violent Crime Response Unit, in line with ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Police Force.

The reform programme is being carried out under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Command explained that the assets would improve crime prevention efforts and emergency response operations throughout Lagos State.

Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, signed the statement on Saturday.

“The Lagos State Police Command has received additional operational assets from the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) to strengthen crime prevention and rapid response operations across the State,” the statement said.

The equipment supplied includes operational vehicles and safety gear.

“The operational assets presented to the Command by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund include two operational vehicles, fifty ballistic helmets, fifty bulletproof vests, and fifty ballistic shields aimed at enhancing the operational capacity, safety, and effectiveness of personnel of the newly established Unit,” it added.

The items were handed over by the Executive Secretary of the LSSTF, Dr Ayodele Ogunsan, who reaffirmed the agency’s ongoing support for security institutions in the state.

While presenting the equipment, he restated “the continued commitment to supporting security agencies in the State through the provision of critical operational equipment and logistics necessary for efficient policing and public safety.”

Receiving the items on behalf of the Command, Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai thanked the Lagos State Government and the LSSTF for the support.

According to him, the donation would strengthen the preparedness of the unit and boost the Command’s ability to tackle violent crimes.

“The support will significantly boost the operational readiness of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) and further enhance the Command’s capacity in combating violent crimes, ensuring rapid response to emergencies, safeguarding lives and property across Lagos State,” the statement added.

He further stated that the Command remains committed to “effective policing, proactive crime prevention, and improved public safety in line with the reform agenda of the Nigeria Police Force.”
